Emergency Evacuation Following Gas Main Rupture
Residents are being evacuated from their homes as emergency services respond to a ruptured gas main in Bristol city centre.
Avon and Somerset Police have established a 200-metre (656 feet) cordon encompassing the St James Barton Roundabout extending to Park Row, Park Street, and Anchor Road.
Traffic and Public Safety Measures
Avon Fire and Rescue Service has advised the public to avoid the area around Colston Street to reduce congestion caused by the significant presence of emergency response vehicles.
Ambulance crews and Wales & West Utilities are also on site, actively monitoring the gas leak and working to isolate it as quickly as possible, according to the fire service.
Impact on Local Venues and Public Transport
The Bristol Beacon has been evacuated as a precautionary measure. In a statement, the venue said:
"A cordon has been put in place by the police, and travel into the city centre is currently not advised."
"We are following instructions from the relevant authorities and will update later this afternoon as to whether tonight's performances with Arooj Aftab & London Contemporary Orchestra in Beacon Hall and Michel Padron's Afro Cuban Orchestra in Lantern Hall can go ahead."
"Customers will be advised via email if the performances are cancelled. Thank you for your understanding and patience."
First Bus reported that multiple services have been disrupted as drivers cannot access the bus station near the Bearpit roundabout.
Due to the closure of Park Street, buses are being diverted via Anchor Road and Jacob Wells Road, resulting in no services running to College Green or the top of Park Street.
