Fire Response Near Fort George

Seven fire crews have been actively managing a fire in a building located near a military base in the Highlands.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported dispatching six appliances along with a high reach vehicle to address the incident outside the Army perimeter at Fort George, situated near Ardersier.

About Fort George

Fort George is an 18th Century artillery fortification that remains operational as a barracks. Additionally, parts of the site are operated as a visitor attraction by Historic Environment Scotland (HES).

Incident Details

SFRS confirmed that there were no casualties reported and that crews continued to work at the scene. The service was alerted to the fire at approximately 12:15.

Assessment and Official Statements

HES, responsible for managing the building affected by the fire, stated it is currently evaluating the cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage sustained.

"The fire did not affect the nearby and historic Fort George, which continues to operate as normal.
