Firefighters are tackling a major fire at Paignton railway station after flames ripped through the roof at the site. Train services have been cancelled or suspended and roads have been closed across the town centre.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to the station at about 05:45 BST, and seven fire crews are currently tackling the blaze. Great Western Railway said the line was blocked due to the fire, and passengers should expect disruption to services.
GWR said trains had been cancelled or suspended between Newton Abbot and Paignton. It added Torre, Torquay and Paignton stations would not be served and that the disruption was expected to continue until at least 14:00 BST.
Passengers can use their train tickets at no extra cost on Stagecoach bus routes 11, 12 and 22. The routes connect Dawlish Warren, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Torre, Torquay and Paignton.
A limited rail replacement bus service is also operating between Newton Abbot, Torre, Torquay and Paignton, although GWR said it was not currently running to an official timetable. CrossCountry passengers can also use their tickets at no extra cost on GWR replacement bus services between Newton Abbot and Paignton.
Which roads are closed near the station?
Road closures are also in place around the station. Torbay Road is shut in both directions between Queens Road and Victoria Street, while Victoria Street and Hyde Road are also closed.
Residents living nearby are being advised to keep windows and doors closed because of smoke, while motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
