Former Humberside Police Communications Head and Partner Sentenced

David Drury, previously the head of communications at Humberside Police, and his partner Daniel Sellers have been sentenced to prison following their guilty pleas to multiple child sex offences.

The offences were committed against a boy under the age of 13 over an extended period, according to Humberside Police.

The couple, both from Hull, were arrested in July 2024. Subsequent examination of Drury's electronic devices uncovered numerous indecent images of children and evidence indicating contact sexual offences committed by him.

At Hull Crown Court on Monday, Drury received a nine-year prison sentence, while Sellers was sentenced to four and a half years. Deputy Chief Constable Sarah Baker described the offences as "appalling." Both men pleaded guilty in May.

Details of Charges and Sentencing

Drury admitted to two counts of sexual assault on a male, sexual assault of a child under 13, six counts of distributing indecent photographs of a child, and voyeurism.

Sellers, a drama teacher at a school in East Yorkshire, pleaded guilty to two counts of aiding, abetting, counselling, and procuring or aiding and abetting sexual assault on a male, as well as arranging and facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.

In addition to their prison sentences, both individuals have been placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Official Statements and Community Impact

"These offences were appalling.
The level of abuse Drury and Sellers subjected the victim to showed complete disregard for their welfare and safety.
I would like to commend the bravery of the victim who supported a police prosecution and provided a victim personal statement."

These remarks were made by Deputy Chief Constable Sarah Baker following the sentencing.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council confirmed that Sellers had previously been employed as a teacher at a local school. A spokesperson clarified that "the offences do not relate to any pupils, past or present."
