Hazardous Material Spill Prompts Evacuation
Several individuals were evacuated from an industrial estate in West Lothian following the spill of a "potentially hazardous material." Emergency services, including police and fire crews, responded to the incident at Houstoun Industrial Estate in Livingston at approximately 08:50. Authorities advised the public to avoid the vicinity during the response.
Incident Containment and Response
Police Scotland confirmed that the spill was contained and stated there was no broader risk to the community. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported no casualties and indicated that crews remained on site to manage the situation.
"Operations control mobilised two appliances and specialist resources."
Road Closures and Evacuations
Road closures were implemented, affecting the Houstoun Road Interchange, Nettlehill Road, Firth Road, and Grange Road. These closures were later lifted as the situation was brought under control. Police Scotland noted that "a number of people" were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
