Police responded to a serious incident on Pen Cae Crwn Road, Gorseinon, Swansea, on Thursday afternoon following a collision involving a car and an off-road bike.
An 18-year-old man, believed to be from Swansea, was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash, which occurred at 12:58 BST. Another individual, aged 19, was transported to hospital with injuries sustained in the incident.
The man from Morriston has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Additional charges include driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving while unfit through drugs, and driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the legal limit.
Traffic Disruptions and Road Closures
The collision caused significant traffic congestion in and around Gorseinon, located northwest of Swansea, which persisted throughout the afternoon. Several roads were closed during peak rush hour, contributing to the delays.
A BBC reporter at the scene described the traffic as "bumper to bumper," with multiple road closures in effect. Residents in the area were initially advised to remain indoors for safety reasons.
Emergency Response
The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed it attended two separate incidents in Gorseinon on Thursday, one at 12:59 and another at 13:10. Following the first incident, a patient was taken to hospital after an air ambulance was dispatched to the scene.
