Incident at Ysgol Maesydderwen

Dyfed Powys Police officers were called to Ysgol Maesydderwen at approximately 10:45 AM on Monday morning.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of sending digital communications conveying threats of death or serious injury with the intent to cause fear.

Ysgol Maesydderwen in Ystradgynlais was required to close after entering a lockdown period on Monday following a report of a threat made over the phone.

The police stated on Monday that the school was locked down to prioritise the safety of everyone present.

The force confirmed there were no reports of injuries at the school and that all pupils and staff were kept safe on site following the incident.

The school remained closed on Tuesday due to developments in the police investigation.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the investigation into threats related to Ysgol Maesydderwen, police confirmed on Friday that a young man from Pontardawe had been arrested.

The boy has since been released on bail while further inquiries continue.
