Fatal Collision on A701

A 15-year-old boy has died following a collision involving two vehicles in the Scottish Borders.

The crash occurred on the A701 at Hearthstane at approximately 14:40 on Friday, involving a black BMW 530e and a yellow Fiat 500 Abarth.

Emergency Response and Casualties

An air ambulance attended the scene, but the teenager, who was a passenger in the Fiat, was pronounced dead at the location.

The 54-year-old male driver and a 21-year-old male passenger of the Fiat were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The 27-year-old driver of the BMW and his 26-year-old female passenger were also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Police Investigation

The driver of the BMW was subsequently arrested but later released pending further inquiries.

The road was closed to facilitate crash investigation work and reopened around 23:00.

Official Statement

Sgt Jamie Humpage said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the boy who died, and they have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them."
"Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone in the area at the time who saw what happened to get in touch."
"Please also check any dashcam footage you have to see if it has captured something that could assist with our investigation."
