US Military Launches Additional Strikes on Iran
The US military has initiated new strikes on Iran after President Donald Trump declared that US forces would strike the country "hard" following an exchange of fire earlier this week.
The US Central Command (Centcom) reported that it commenced "additional self-defense strikes" at 17:15 Eastern time (21:15 GMT) on Wednesday targeting "multiple targets in Iran at the Commander in Chief's direction".
"The strikes are in response to Iran's unwarranted and continued aggression,"
Centcom added.
Context of Recent Strikes
Earlier on Tuesday, the US also carried out strikes on Iran after President Trump claimed that Tehran had downed a US Army helicopter. In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it retaliated with strikes on US bases in the region.
