US Helicopter Downed Near Strait of Hormuz
President Donald Trump has accused Iran of shooting down a US Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz and has pledged that the United States will respond out of "necessity".
Two crew members of the AH-64 Apache helicopter that crashed following the incident were rescued by an American sea drone, US officials confirmed to the BBC.
"There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured," the president wrote on Truth Social. "Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack."
This marks the first loss of an Apache helicopter since the conflict with Iran began.
Rescue and Condition of Crew
US Central Command (Centcom) reported that the two soldiers were safely rescued within approximately two hours and are currently in stable condition. The helicopter went down near the coast of Oman while patrolling regional waters.
"The two soldiers were safely rescued within approximately two hours and are in stable condition," Centcom stated.
