Deadly Drone and Missile Attacks Across Ukraine
On Wednesday night, Russia launched a series of drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 people, according to Ukrainian officials.
In the capital city of Kyiv, two victims included a 12-year-old boy, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported, noting that at least 18 others sustained injuries during the attacks.
One fatality was also confirmed in the southeastern city of Dnipro, according to a Ukrainian official, while additional attacks were reported in various other cities throughout the country.
Across the border in Russia's southern Krasnodar Krai region, two children aged five and 14 were killed in a Ukrainian drone strike, as stated by the region's governor, Veniamin Kondratyev, on Telegram.
The recent strikes followed a brief ceasefire that coincided with Orthodox Easter celebrations over the weekend, during which both Ukraine and Russia accused each other of hundreds of violations.
Klitschko provided further details on Telegram, stating that besides the deaths of the 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman, rescuers had extracted a mother and child from the rubble of a 16-storey residential building that collapsed in Kyiv's central Podilsky district.

In the northern part of Kyiv, repeated shelling resulted in injuries to four emergency medical workers among others.
Casualties and Damage in Dnipro and Other Cities
In the central city of Dnipro, one person was killed and at least 10 others were injured in an attack, according to Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the regional administration, who posted the information on Telegram. Online images showed buildings engulfed in flames in the city.
Additional reports indicated that a drone strike in Kharkiv injured a 77-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man. Meanwhile, five people were wounded in an attack on the southern port city of Odesa.
Context of the Conflict and Peace Efforts
The war in Ukraine has now entered its fifth year, with multiple rounds of peace talks having taken place. The United States has served as a mediator in these negotiations.
However, the peace process has stalled since US President Donald Trump shifted his administration's focus toward conflicts in the Middle East.
Ukraine has consistently proposed establishing a full and stable ceasefire as an initial step toward negotiating a lasting resolution to Russia's invasion.
Conversely, Moscow insists that a peace deal must be agreed upon first, leading to accusations from Kyiv that Russia is not genuinely committed to ending the hostilities.
