Largest Drone Assault Targets Ukraine

Russia has executed the most extensive aerial assault on Ukraine within a 24-hour timeframe since the onset of the conflict, deploying 948 drones across multiple Ukrainian cities.

On Tuesday afternoon alone, over 400 drones were launched in a rare daytime offensive, resulting in numerous casualties throughout western Ukraine.

This wave of attacks followed a severe overnight bombardment that claimed at least five lives.

Damage in Western Cities

Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of the Lviv region, reported damage to the Bernardine monastery, a 16th-century UNESCO World Heritage site. A video released by Lviv authorities depicted a fire engulfing the roof of a residential building adjacent to the monastery.

Additional strikes targeted the western cities of Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, and Ternopil.

Svitlana Onyshchuk, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, confirmed two fatalities and four injuries, including a six-year-old child. The attacks damaged various structures in the city, notably including the maternity hospital.

In Lviv, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported 13 injuries and cautioned that this number was expected to rise.

Vinnytsia also suffered casualties, with one person killed and 11 injured during the Tuesday afternoon strikes.

Context of the Conflict

While the war has affected nearly all regions of Ukraine over the past four years, the western part of the country has experienced comparatively fewer and less intense attacks than areas closer to the Russian border in the east.

Yurii Ihnat, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, stated late Tuesday that a "large number of drones" penetrated Ukrainian airspace from the north, moving in coordinated columns.

"The geography of the strikes during the daytime was broader than at night... It can be said this was one of the largest attacks within a 24-hour period,"

he added.

Four years after Russia initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, hostilities persist without abatement.

Counterattack in Russia's Kursk Region

On Tuesday, the governor of Russia's Kursk region reported that a Ukrainian drone strike targeted an agricultural enterprise, resulting in one death and 13 injuries.
