Arrest Following Fatal Channel Crossing Attempt

A 27-year-old Sudanese man has been arrested on suspicion of endangering life after four individuals died while attempting to board a small boat to cross the English Channel on Thursday, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).

The victims, two men and two women whose identities have not yet been disclosed, died as they tried to board a water taxi off the coast of Saint Etienne au Mont, near Calais.

The suspect was apprehended at the Manston processing centre in Kent and remains in police custody, the NCA confirmed.

Authorities reported that 38 people were returned to the French shore, while 74 managed to reach the UK. Investigators are currently interviewing those who successfully made the journey.
