Gardaí have carried out a "high-impact day of action" under Operation Meacán in the Dublin Metropolitan Region, seizing 166 e-bikes and e-scooters on Tuesday. The operation also led to the seizure of seven e-dirt bikes, four scrambler motorcycles and three quad vehicles after 96 searches.
Four out of five people arrested have been charged. Gardaí also found €25,820 in cash, €158,000 worth of suspected drugs, a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition.
What is Operation Meacán targeting?
Operation Meacán was launched in December 2023 to target the use of electric motorbikes, e-scooters and e-bikes for criminal activity.
