Teacher Accused of Grooming and Soliciting Explicit Content

A high school teacher in Sydney has been accused of grooming a 14-year-old girl and offering her money to produce sexually explicit material. The 29-year-old man, who was teaching at a secondary school for boys, allegedly targeted the girl, who was not known to him, before she disclosed the situation to her parents, who then alerted authorities.

Arrest and Investigation Details

The teacher was arrested at 5:45 am on Thursday in Beecroft, located in Sydney's northern suburbs. NSW Police have stated that they are not aware of the teacher targeting any other children online at this time.

“We will certainly be taking steps to thoroughly investigate the matter, to ascertain if there are any other children who have been victims of this particular predator,”

said Detective Acting Superintendent Karl Leis.

School and Charges

The man taught at a boys' secondary school, which police have declined to name. Police allege that the initial contact with the girl occurred on March 18. During their communications, the man offered her money in exchange for sexually explicit material.

“The money is not a significant sum, however, I will say (he) did take steps to pressure the child during that dialogue, trying to encourage her to send him sexually explicit material in exchange for money,”

Detective Superintendent Leis explained.

Warnings and Legal Proceedings

Detective Superintendent Leis emphasized the importance of awareness for both children and parents regarding online activities.

“It’s obviously a timely reminder for children, but also importantly parents, to know what your children are doing online.”

The man has been charged with using a carriage service to groom a child under 16 years for sexual purposes and using a carriage service to access child abuse material. He was denied bail and was scheduled to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday.
