Queensland Police Shoot Dead Alleged Domestic Violence Suspect North of Brisbane

Queensland police have fatally shot a man armed with a firearm during an alleged domestic violence incident at a residence north of Brisbane.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, officers responded to reports of a man armed and making threats at a house in Narangba.

The man reportedly threatened police while holding the weapon, prompting an officer to discharge their firearm.

Police immediately administered first aid and attempted resuscitation, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Queensland Ambulance Service stated paramedics assessed a patient in life-threatening condition. Additionally, three other individuals were transported to hospital in stable condition.

The Police Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission, has commenced an investigation into the incident.

David Pocock Advocates for Fair Returns from Future Industries

Independent senator David Pocock has called for Australia to secure a fair return from gas exports and emerging sectors such as critical minerals and AI datacentres.

"I think we need to get a fair return from the export of our gas right now but we need to be looking at all these other industries that we’re told are the industries of the future, critical minerals, AI datacentres."

When asked about what constitutes a fair return and whether Australia should consider a government ownership model similar to Norway’s, Pocock responded:

"I don’t have the specific solution to it but I think it’s the principle of how do we get a fair return on resources that belong to the Australian people?"

David Pocock Calls for a 25% Tax on Gas Exports

Senator Pocock clarified that he does not seek to halt the gas industry but advocates for a fair return on gas exports.

Speaking on the program Insiders, he stated:

"We’re one of the biggest gas exporters in the world right now. My argument is we should be getting a fair return from the export of that gas, and also lowering the price of gas here in Australia."
"We’re constantly being told that we have some sort of shortage of gas. We’ve got manufacturers here paying more for Australian gas than Japan is buying our gas for."
