The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development in Perth informed AFP news agency that it received a report confirming the man was bitten by a great white shark.

The department has urged the public to exercise "additional caution" when entering waters around the affected area.

Shark Attack Statistics and Recent Incidents

Since records began in 1791, Australia has documented nearly 1,300 shark attacks, with over 260 resulting in fatalities.

Earlier this year, in January, four shark attacks were reported along the New South Wales coast within a span of two days.

One of the victims was 12-year-old Nico Antic, who was attacked by a suspected bull shark after jumping from a rock into Sydney Harbour. He passed away a week later.

His parents expressed their grief in a joint statement, saying they were "heartbroken."
