Authorities Investigate Mysterious Spheres on Forrest Beach
Queensland officials have issued warnings to local residents regarding several large silver spheres that recently washed ashore on a beach in northern Queensland, Australia. The six solid objects were discovered on Forrest Beach, located north of Townsville, over the weekend. Authorities suspect these spheres may be space debris, and the Australian Space Agency (ASA) is currently working to identify their origin. The BBC has reached out to the agency for further comment.
Personnel wearing protective suits were reportedly observed placing the spheres into hazmat barrels under police supervision, due to concerns that the objects might contain hazardous materials.
Queensland's fire department announced on Sunday that a 50-meter exclusion zone remains in effect around the site. They have advised the public not to touch any suspicious objects found in the area.
Members of the public who encounter such objects are urged to immediately move away and contact emergency services.
There has been speculation on social media that the spheres could be propellant tanks from spacecraft, potentially containing residual amounts of highly flammable or reactive substances. However, the specific vehicle or owner of these objects has not yet been identified.

Local Community Reacts to the Discovery
Local authorities have emphasized the importance of avoiding contact with the mysterious spheres.
"It's very quiet, not a lot happens here. So having a lot of extra activity... that definitely created a little bit of excitement,"said Lisa Scobie, owner of Forrest Beach Takeaway, reflecting the community's curiosity about the spheres' origin.
Previous Incidents of Space Debris on Australian Shores
This is not the first occasion that unexplained objects have appeared along Australia's coastline. In 2023, India confirmed that a large metal dome found on a Western Australian beach near Perth originated from one of its rockets. An official spokesperson from India's space agency later informed the BBC that the object was part of a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).

In 2011, a spherical object resembling those found recently was discovered in remote grasslands in Namibia, southern Africa. Experts at the time suggested it was likely a fuel tank or bladder tank containing hydrazine, a highly volatile propellant, from an unmanned rocket.
