Investigation into Disappearance of Former Foreign Minister Raphael Tuju
Kenyan police are actively investigating the reported disappearance of former Foreign Minister Raphael Tuju, following concerns that he may have been abducted.
Tuju's family reported that the ex-minister and his driver went missing while en route to an evening radio interview on Saturday.
Authorities discovered his vehicle abandoned with hazard lights activated along a road in Karen, an affluent suburb of Nairobi, the capital city. Police indicated they were unable to contact Tuju as his phone was switched off.

Background and Legal Disputes
Raphael Tuju, who has held multiple government positions including foreign minister, is currently involved in a protracted legal dispute concerning the auction and takeover of his Nairobi properties due to an unsettled bank loan.
He recently claimed that numerous police officers raided his Karen property, removing his staff and security personnel, and assumed control of the business premises.
Tuju alleged that influential officials were orchestrating efforts to seize his property. The government has not issued any statements regarding these allegations.
The ongoing court case involves lenders attempting to recover debts exceeding $15 million (£11 million) linked to properties owned by Tuju's company, Dari Limited. He has filed several unsuccessful legal challenges to halt the auction and has recently secured court orders preventing the transfer of the property pending the hearing of his latest application.
Police Response and Family Cooperation
On Sunday, Tuju's lawyer, Paul Nyamodi, informed local media that prior to his disappearance, the former minister had reported to police that he was being followed by an unmarked vehicle.
Police stated that a specialised unit is managing the investigation and is collaborating with all relevant government agencies to determine Tuju's whereabouts.
Authorities have called on the public to provide any information that could assist in locating the former minister.
They also urged Tuju's family to cooperate with the investigation, noting that investigators had been denied access to his residence.
"We urge full cooperation from all parties, including unrestricted access to relevant locations and prompt provision of information, for a swift and thorough resolution," the police said in a statement.
Political Reactions and Concerns
Tuju's disappearance has sparked allegations from prominent opposition figures suggesting the ex-minister may have been abducted.
Governor James Orengo claimed that Tuju had been "kidnapped."
"Let's pray for Tuju because he has gone through a lot," he said.
Lawmaker Otiende Amollo stated that they are pressing authorities for answers.
"We are urging the police to do all that is within their power to trace and protect him. We abhor the possibility that there are people who can abduct someone of [his] stature," he said.
