Glasgow Subway Service Extended for Summer Sessions

Glasgow's subway system will operate until 01:00 on evenings when major concerts are held at Bellahouston Park during the summer. Normally, the subway service concludes shortly after 23:00, but Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) will extend the hours throughout the Summer Sessions in June and July.

Artists including Kings of Leon, Pitbull, and Alanis Morissette are scheduled to perform as part of the Summer Sessions series. The Ibrox subway station is among the closest public transport options to the venue.

Additionally, fans can use the nearby Dumbreck station for later train services, with trains running there until 00:16.

Promoting Sustainable Travel

Stephen O'Neill, event manager for Glasgow Summer Sessions, highlighted the importance of encouraging sustainable travel to and from the events. He stated:

"Having the Subway running until 01:00 and a train back to the city centre just after midnight on event nights gives fans additional travel options and allows them to enjoy the full event experience with confidence and peace of mind.
We're really grateful to Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and Scotrail for arranging this and for making the Glasgow Summer Sessions experience that bit smoother for ticket holders, and for providing sustainable travel options."

Summer Sessions Line-Up and Schedule

The Summer Sessions will feature six shows in total. The series begins with the folk rock and Americana festival State Fayre on Saturday, which will include performances by The Proclaimers and KT Tunstall.

Following that, Teddy Swims will headline the next night. Other concerts include Alanis Morissette on 30 June, Pitbull on 1 July, Kings of Leon on 3 July, and My Chemical Romance on 4 July.

A previously announced concert by rock legend Neil Young was cancelled after he announced the need to take a break.

Comprehensive travel information and event-specific guidance, including access to the sustainable journey planner You.Smart.Thing, are available on the Summer Sessions website.

Upcoming Subway Closures for System Testing

This announcement follows news from SPT that the subway will be closed for four Sundays during July and August to facilitate testing of a new signalling and communications system. The closures are scheduled for 19 July, 16 August, 23 August, and 30 August.

On these dates, further testing will also be conducted on platform screen doors, which have been fully installed at Govan, Partick, and Ibrox stations.
