Company to be Liquidated

A company established to manage a proposed satellite launch facility in the north-west Highlands is set to be liquidated, with its assets to be sold off.

Sutherland Spaceport Ltd (SSL), a subsidiary of the Forres-based rocket manufacturer Orbex, is undergoing this process following Orbex's placement into administration earlier this year.

Spaceport Plans and Status

SSL was intended to operate a spaceport near the village of Tongue. Although it had obtained planning permission, no significant construction work has commenced at the site.

Administrators' Statements and Asset Sales

Last month, administrators FRP Advisory reported that discussions were ongoing to sell various parts of the collapsed rocket manufacturer.

It said there had been a "high level" of interest from buyers, with 15 offers received for parts of the business and its assets.

Employment and Company Background

Orbex employed 163 people across the United Kingdom, with the majority based in Forres, Moray. Most of these employees lost their jobs in February.

Founded in February 2015, Orbex was developing a rocket named Prime, designed for launching small satellites into low Earth orbit.
