BP Chair Removed Amid Governance and Conduct Issues
Oil major BP has removed its chair, Albert Manifold, citing "serious concerns" related to "important governance standards, oversight, and conduct."
Senior independent director Amanda Blanc stated the board was both "surprised and disappointed to learn of governance oversight and conduct issues it deems unacceptable and has taken decisive action."
Manifold had held the chair position for less than a year. Following the announcement of his removal, BP shares fell by 4%.
Ian Tyler has been appointed as interim chair effective immediately.
Background on Albert Manifold's Appointment
Manifold joined BP in September 2025 as a non-executive director and was elevated to chair the following month. At the time of his appointment, BP highlighted Manifold's "strong track record of strategic leadership and operational delivery."
