Major Development Proposed in Angus
A £480 million development featuring a five-star hotel and 185 housing plots has been proposed for farmland in Angus.
The plans include retaining the existing 18-hole championship golf course at the Shank of Omachie site, located near Wellbank.
Facilities and Amenities
The proposal also involves constructing a golf academy and a country club equipped with a gym, padel courts, and swimming pools.
Planning and Ownership
Initial proposals for the Brae of Angus development have been submitted to Angus Council.
The site was purchased by Angus Land Company Ltd (ALC) and is currently owned by the private investment firm Mocca Capital.
The hotel would be operated by the international hotel chain Hyatt.
Community Engagement and Workforce
ALC has expressed a commitment to recruit and train a local workforce for the project.
Two public consultation events are scheduled before planning permission is sought, to be held at Wellbank Village Hall on 27 April and 3 June.
Project Vision and Investment
ALC aims to establish a "world-class destination" on the site, which is situated west of Carnoustie.
Proceeds from the sale of housing plots will be reinvested into the development.
"The development represents one of the most significant hospitality investments in Scotland in recent years, with a projected investment of approximately £480m while delivering considerable local employment opportunities in both its construction and operations on completion."
