Nicholas Brendon, the actor renowned for his role as Xander Harris in the popular television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at the age of 54.

According to a statement released by his family, Brendon passed away on Friday "in his sleep of natural causes."

"Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years, Nicky has found his passion in painting and art. Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans," his family said.
"He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was."

Brendon was a regular cast member on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where he portrayed Xander, the vampire slayer’s close friend and a source of comic relief throughout the series. The show aired on the WB network in the United States.

In 2023, Brendon disclosed that he had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and had suffered a heart attack. He also lived with cauda equina syndrome (CES), a condition affecting the nerves at the lower end of the spinal cord.

"While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis, and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing," his family stated.
