Warner Bros Announces Cast for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum
Warner Bros has unveiled the eagerly anticipated cast list for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
Making their Middle-earth debuts are Leo Woodall, known for One Day, Jamie Dornan from Fifty Shades of Grey, and acclaimed English actress Kate Winslet.
The cast announcement was made during Warner Bros' presentation at this year's CinemaCon, an event that gathers studios and cinema executives to showcase upcoming productions.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release next year.
Plot and Direction
Directed by Andy Serkis, the movie will explore Aragorn's early quest to locate Gollum in order to prevent Sauron from discovering the location of the Ring.
New Cast Members and Roles
English actor Leo Woodall, a newcomer to the franchise, will portray Halvard. The 29-year-old actor has gained recognition for his performances in HBO's The White Lotus, Netflix's romantic drama One Day, and Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.
Jamie Dornan will take on the role of Strider, also known as Aragorn. Dornan succeeds Viggo Mortensen, who famously portrayed the character in the original trilogy.
Bafta and Golden Globes nominee Dornan first rose to prominence with his role as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey film series starting in 2015.
Kate Winslet, an award-winning actress, will play the character Marigol.
Returning Cast and Franchise Legacy
Alongside the newcomers, fans will see the return of familiar faces. Sir Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, and Andy Serkis will reprise their roles as Gandalf, Frodo Baggins, and Gollum/Sméagol respectively. Additionally, Lee Pace, known from The Hobbit, will return as the Elvenking Thranduil.
The Lord of the Rings franchise has enjoyed immense popularity, grossing approximately £2.5 billion ($3 billion) at the box office. It maintained a dedicated global cult following long before the films were produced.
