Justin Bieber's Nostalgic Return to Coachella

Justin Bieber made a nostalgia-fuelled return to a major stage as the highly anticipated headline act at Coachella.

The 32-year-old spent much of Saturday night's performance seated in front of a laptop, singing along to YouTube music videos of his earlier hits, including "Baby" and "Never Say Never," much to the delight of the audience. This appeared to be a tribute to the platform where he was originally discovered.

He also showcased some of the home videos that initially brought him to the attention of the music industry when he was 12 years old, projecting them onto the large screen. Bieber seemed to engage with the live comments on the YouTube stream of his set during the performance.

This event marked Bieber's largest live show in four years, following the cancellation of his Justice world tour due to health complications.

Throughout the gig, he performed mostly alone on an otherwise empty stage, delivering tracks from his 2025 album Swag. At one point, he addressed the crowd, expressing his desire to take them "on a journey" by revisiting his musical archive.

"How far back do you go?"

Bieber repeatedly asked the audience this question as he moved through his set.

He also played a clip that recently went viral and sparked speculation about his mental health. In the video, he confronted a photographer, stating:

"It's not clocking to you, I'm standing on business."

Wearing a hoodie and shorts on a minimalist stage, Bieber was joined by guest musicians including The Kid Laroi, Wizkid, Tems, and Dijon.

His wife, Hailey Bieber, was seen in the crowd, alongside celebrity attendees such as Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.

Health Challenges and Recent Work

Bieber had to cancel his world tour after revealing he was suffering from facial paralysis caused by Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a complication resulting from shingles, diagnosed in 2022.

In July 2025, he released a surprise album titled Swag, and in February of the same year, he performed live at the Grammy Awards.

Contrast with Other Performances and Festival Details

Bieber's Coachella set presented a stark contrast to the previous night's headline act, Sabrina Carpenter, whose Hollywood-themed performance featured costume changes, choreography, and elaborate stage design.

Colombian pop star Karol G is scheduled to headline the festival on Sunday. The event spans two weekends in the California desert and attracts more than 100,000 attendees daily, according to police from the city of Indio. Coachella has been held at Indio's Empire Polo Club since 2002.
