Bonnie Tyler, the singer from Neath, was placed in a medically induced coma to aid her recovery following emergency surgery in Portugal.

The 74-year-old was rushed to a hospital near her home in Faro, Algarve, to undergo surgery on her colon.

A spokesperson on her behalf stated that the treatment went well and she is now recovering.

Bonnie Tyler, whose real name is Gaynor Hopkins, gained international fame in the 1980s with her hit song "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which topped charts in the United Kingdom and the United States.

She also has several other popular songs, including "Holding Out for a Hero" and "It's a Heartache."

Later this year, Bonnie Tyler is scheduled to perform concerts across Europe to mark the 50th anniversary of her song "Lost in France" achieving chart success in Europe.

Performances have been arranged in Malta, Germany, the UK, and several other countries.
